In Portugal, "petiscos" are snacks,small portions of food, ideal for sharing and eating while having a drink, such as beer or wine. They are an essential part of Portuguese gastronomic culture and include a variety of delicacies from both land and sea.

Frango no churrasco or spicy chargrilled chicken packs a real punch – the longer you leave it to marinate, the more intense the flavour. Centuries ago, the seafaring Portuguese established trade routes throughout the world, an endeavour that brought them into contact with many exotic foods. Among them was a potent little chilly called piri-piri.
